On June 4, the City of Port St. Lucie celebrated the grand opening of Stars & Stripes Park, a new public destination that reflects the continued commitment of the City and Mattamy Homes to invest in parks, recreation, and community gathering spaces for a growing population.
The opening marks the culmination of years of planning, design, coordination, and construction, transforming a shared vision into a place where residents can gather, learn, reflect, and connect.
Stars & Stripes Park stands as a strong example of what can be achieved through a successful public-private partnership. Rather than simply dedicating land for a future park, Mattamy Homes made the decision to invest in the design and construction of a completed public space that residents can enjoy today. The result is a unique community asset that delivers immediate value while contributing to the long-term quality of life in Port St. Lucie.
For the Lucido & Associates team, projects like this represent some of the most meaningful work we have the opportunity to undertake. From initial concepts and master planning through approvals, construction, and ultimately opening day, there is a special sense of accomplishment in seeing a vision become a reality and watching the public embrace the spaces that were carefully imagined and designed.
Parks are among the most impactful public spaces a community can create. Whether they serve as playgrounds, athletic facilities, passive recreation areas, educational environments, or places for social gathering, parks help strengthen the social fabric of a community by creating opportunities for connection, recreation, and shared experiences.
Stars & Stripes Park was designed as a place of both celebration and reflection. At its heart is a commemorative plaza honoring veterans and first responders, connected by a deliberate axis to a large interactive sundial. The design extends outward into an outdoor classroom and celestial lawn, creating opportunities for education, exploration, and community engagement. Together, these elements create a distinctive environment that encourages visitors to learn, gather, and appreciate the contributions of those honored within the space.
The park joins a growing collection of public spaces throughout the Treasure Coast that Lucido & Associates has been privileged to help bring to life. Each project contributes to a broader network of parks, open spaces, and community destinations that enhance quality of life and create lasting value for residents.
